Rodriguez Law Firm accepts car accident referrals from attorneys in Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Texas. We pay a generous referral fee, structured to comply with the professional conduct rules in each jurisdiction.
If you have a case you’d like us to look at, call +1 571-292-1209. We’ll review it quickly and tell you straight away whether it’s one we can take.
Why Attorneys Refer Car Accident Cases to Rodriguez Law Firm
Car accident cases are the core of what we do, and we handle them at volume. That focus shows up in the thing referring attorneys care about most: how long the case takes.
- Our average case resolves in 273 days. For car accident cases, that drops to 260 days. You can read how we measure it on our page explaining how long a settlement takes with Rodriguez Law Firm.
- A faster resolution means your referral fee is paid sooner, and the client you sent us isn’t left waiting a year and a half for an answer.
- We’re licensed in four jurisdictions, so one referral relationship covers Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Texas.
- We represent Spanish-speaking clients in Spanish, start to finish.
- Your client won’t be asked to pay for medical care upfront. We work with providers who agree to be paid later, so treatment doesn’t have to wait on the case.

The Cases We Accept
We take car accident and motor vehicle injury cases, including:
- Rear-end and intersection collisions
- Hit-and-run claims
- Uninsured and underinsured motorist claims
- Rideshare accidents
- Commercial vehicle and trucking collisions
- Pedestrians and cyclists struck by a vehicle
- Wrongful death arising from a collision
We accept these cases in Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Texas. We don’t take cases outside those four jurisdictions.
If you have an injury case in one of our four states that isn’t a car accident, call us anyway. We’d rather hear about it and tell you honestly whether we’re the right fit.
Our Referral Fee
We pay a generous referral fee on cases we accept and resolve. The exact arrangement depends on the jurisdiction and how the case is structured, so we discuss it directly rather than publishing a single number that wouldn’t hold true across four sets of rules.
Call +1 571-292-1209 and we’ll walk you through what the split looks like for your case before you commit to anything.
How the Referral Works
- Call us. Give us the basics: the client’s name, the date of the collision, the jurisdiction, the injuries, where treatment stands, and what insurance coverage you know about.
- We run a conflict check and review the case. You’ll hear back quickly on whether we’re taking it.
- We paper the referral. We prepare the fee division agreement and the written client disclosure and consent required in that jurisdiction.
- We work the case. You’ll be kept informed of progress at intervals we agree with you at the outset.
- You’re paid at resolution. Your fee is disbursed at the same time ours is.
Referral Fee Rules in Our Four States
The rules on dividing a fee with an attorney outside your firm differ meaningfully across our jurisdictions. Here’s the short version. We’ll confirm how it applies to your specific case when you call, and we prepare the agreements and client consent paperwork ourselves.
Virginia
Virginia is more permissive than most states. Under the Virginia Rules of Professional Conduct:
- A referring attorney is not required to assume joint responsibility or to base the split on the proportion of work performed. A fee may be collected for the referral itself.
- The total fee charged to the client must be reasonable, and the client must consent in writing after full disclosure of the arrangement, including each attorney’s share or responsibility.
- Fees may not be shared with nonlawyers, marketing companies, or lead-generation services.
Maryland
Under Maryland Rule 1.5(e), attorneys in different firms may divide a fee only if:
- The division is either proportional to the work each attorney performs, or each attorney assumes joint responsibility for the representation.
- The client is fully informed of the arrangement and agrees to it, confirmed in writing.
- The total combined fee is reasonable.
Washington, D.C.
D.C. does not permit pure referral fees. Under D.C. Rule 1.5(e), a division of fees between attorneys in different firms is allowed only if:
- The division is in proportion to the services each attorney performs, or each attorney assumes joint responsibility for the representation by written agreement with the client.
- The client receives written notice identifying the participating attorneys and the division of responsibility.
- The client gives informed consent in writing.
- The total fee is reasonable under Rule 1.5(a).
Texas
Texas also prohibits pure referral fees. Under Texas Disciplinary Rule 1.04(f), a fee may be divided only if:
- The division is in proportion to the substantial legal services each attorney performs, or the referring attorney assumes joint financial and ethical responsibility for the representation.
- The client is informed of the division, including the share each attorney will receive, and consents in writing.
- The total fee is neither illegal nor unconscionable.
- The arrangement is documented and agreed before or at the time of the referral.
Joint Responsibility
In Maryland, D.C., and Texas, a referring attorney needs to either perform a share of the work or assume joint responsibility for the case. That doesn’t mean day-to-day involvement, and it doesn’t have to be complicated. We’ll explain exactly what it means for your case on the call and prepare the written agreement for you.
Medical Treatment and Bills
Injured clients often worry about how they’ll pay for treatment. At Rodriguez Law Firm, we partner with medical providers who are comfortable being paid later. Your client won’t have to pay for their care upfront.
To be clear about what that means: we don’t cover your client’s medical costs ourselves. The providers we work with agree to wait for payment.
We’ll explain more about how this works when you call us.
Your Client Stays Your Client
A referral shouldn’t cost you a relationship you’ve spent years building.
- You stay informed throughout the case and are credited with the referral.
- We don’t solicit your client’s other legal matters. Work outside the referred case comes back to you.
- If you’d prefer to stay actively involved as co-counsel rather than refer the case outright, tell us on the call and we’ll structure it that way.
Need to Refer Spanish-speaking Clients?
A significant share of our caseload is Spanish-speaking clients. Intake, case communication, and documentation are all handled in Spanish by attorneys and staff who speak it natively, not through a translation service.
If you have a client you can’t comfortably serve because of a language barrier, that’s a case we’re well placed to take. Read more on our Spanish-speaking lawyer services.
